Climate Change

Day by day climate change is getting more serious. It may look like nothing, but soon you’d wish you had done something sooner. A famous scientist Bill Nye made a strong statement: “climate change is happening, humans are causing it.”

Do you remember the wildfires in California and Australia? Those were caused by global warming, and may only get worse with time. Global warming is a gradual increase in the overall temperature usually attributed to the greenhouse effect. What is the greenhouse effect? The greenhouse effect is a process that happens when the gases in the Earth’s atmosphere catch the Sun’s heat. Cows produce greenhouse gases through their waste, and digestion. About 5,000 people die each year due to climate change in the U.S.A only, and another 25,000 are injured.

According to the IPCC the worst impacts of climate change could be irreversible by 2030, which is less than a decade away! Carbon emissions increased by 1.7% in 2017, and in 2018 they increased to 2.7%! Not only that, but more than 1 million species are at risk of extinction because of climate change too! The normal rate is to lose about 5 species a year, but currently we’re losing 10,000 times the normal rate. This is not only affecting animals, but it could be bad for us humans as well.

Humans are the main cause of climate change, due to our bad habits such as, cutting down forests and livestock, polluting, and burning fossil fuels. It’s not too late to reverse the damage that has been done, and if everyone contributes, we can save our planet. So, what can you do? You can do a few simple things like planting a tree, bike more instead of driving, choosing to use non-toxic chemicals, conserving water, educate people about the causes, volunteer for cleanups in the community, and reduce reuse, and recycle. This is certainly not a list of everything, but the more the better!

As you can see, climate change is not friendly whatsoever, and is quite harmful not only to our environment, but to us! Every bit of action taken against it will make a huge difference, and maybe then we can save our world!
